Pavilion makes way for new stables and a dynamic new venue.  10/9/08

Addington Events Centre’s Pavilion venue has made way for a major new development that will bring the Metropolitan Trotting Club’s stables to the track’s edge and provide an exciting rooftop location for events.

After hosting countless wedding banquets, corporate functions and race events, the Pavilion and it’s popular trackside patio was demolished in February 2008 to allow construction of much needed new stables for harness racing participants.

Once completed, the new stables will not only provide an exceptional facility for horses, drivers and their support personnel and equipment, but also create a dynamic roof top space for all manner of events.  The roof space will have a capacity for up to 2000 people.  Marquees will be able to be erected on it and a ramp will allow vehicle access.  On non-race days, the stables themselves will also be available for use, creating an out-of-the-ordinary event space.

The roof space will be ready to welcome its first guests during Cup Week 2008, while the entire stables complex is due to be completed in February 2009.

Addington Events Centre 'constantly evolving'. 17/8/06

Addington Events Centre has just completed renovations to one of its largest ground floor venues, the Metropolitan Lounge at the west end of the Main Stand.

General Manager, Paul Goodwin, says the renovations are part of an ongoing programme of enhancement at the Centre.  “Addington is known for providing clients with flexible, practical venues and good value for money and it’s our intention to continue to meet those expectations by constantly evolving and providing even greater flexibility,” says Goodwin.

By removing a serving area from the centre of the room, the renovations of the Metropolitan Lounge have resulted in an expansive flat-floor area of 740m2.  The increased floor space provides significant scope for users and has the practical advantage of being on the ground floor.  Wide bi-fold doors on the southern entrance and a large roller door on the west side of the venue further increase the flexibility of the venue by allowing easy access for large equipment, vehicles, even trucks. MetLounge200pxl.jpg

The Lounge also features two separate bar & food serving areas, numerous eft-pos cable links and ample power points.  These facilities and the expansive floor space make the Metropolitan Lounge particularly well suited to trade shows, retail promotions, cocktail events and dinners.

Addington Events Centre’s professional event co-ordinators can advise on how to get the most out of the Metropolitan Lounge, or any of the Centre’s many other venues, and can assist with catering requirements and general planning.  For further information phone (03) 338 2572.

Main Stand foyer areas get a stylish makeover. 6/1/06

Renovations have now been completed on the multi level Foyer within the Stewards and Members Stand, creating a stylish entry point to a number of our most frequently used venues.
Newly painted and recarpeted, the Foyer areas on the Ground, First and Second Levels now also feature elegant sofas and armchairs, lamps, artworks and cosy gas fires.  The overall effect is stylish and inviting.  The Foyer areas are available for hire, either on their own for small gatherings, or in conjunction with the hire of another larger venue such as Silks or the Christian Cullen Lounge.

Centre focuses on flexibility. October 2005

The recently re-named and re-branded Addington Events Centre has been making events easy and affordable for Christchurch businesses and organisations for over two decades.

Located just 10 minutes from Cathedral Square, the Centre boasts an extensive range of individual venues, its own in-house catering service and expansive car parking.  These facilities, combined with the Centre’s professional event co-ordination services, make Addington a natural choice for private and commercial events.

In a typical year, Addington Events Centre will host all manner of events - from trade shows, conferences, expos and family reunions to school balls, corporate banquets, workplace Christmas functions and wedding receptions.  These events are in addition to the many harness racing events staged at Addington throughout the year, which are open to the public and offer a great way to mix business with pleasure.

Another integral feature of Addington Events Centre is Twiggers Cabaret, Dine & Dance.  Providing the South Island’s only regular cabaret show, Twiggers is a popular destination for work or social club functions, 21st birthdays, anniversaries and family celebrations.  Groups of two to 200 can be accommodated in Twiggers’ large, comfortable surroundings.  After enjoying dinner from the extensive smorgasbord, diners are entertained and invited onto the dance floor by resident band Fun Shui.  Their stunning show features costumes, choreography and performances of popular hits from the past five decades.

Addington Events Centre’s General Manager Paul Goodwin says: “The diversity and scope of our facilities means we can accommodate almost any size of event, from international expos such as TRENZ, to an intimate cocktail function for 20 people”.   He believes Addington’s popularity with corporate and private clients is largely due to the Centre’s ability and willingness to be flexible. “Our stated aim of making events easy for clients and delivering real value for money requires a flexible approach,” says Paul.  “It’s something the team takes great pride in delivering.  Repeat business suggests the Centre is achieving that goal admirably.”
